The Void Anchor
In a galaxy connected by the perilous currents of hyperspace, every jump risks 'Void Drift'—the fracturing of a traveler's mind. The player takes the role of a Resynchronizer, a rare individual able to anchor minds against the chaos. Aboard the freighter Stardust Drifter, a routine journey turns critical when a high-profile passenger suffers a catastrophic Drift event, entangling the player in a web of corporate conspiracy and personal secrets.

📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
The galaxy is dominated by a handful of hyper-corporations that control interstellar travel, commerce, and politics. The backbone of this civilization is the Drift Drive, which allows for faster-than-light travel through a dimension known as hyperspace. However, this convenience comes at a cost: Void Drift. Every jump causes a subtle desynchronization between a person's quantum state and baseline reality. The cumulative effect leads to memory loss, personality shifts, hallucinations, and in extreme cases, physical dissolution. To combat this, a rare few individuals with psionic abilities, known as Resynchronizers or 'Anchors,' are employed on long-haul vessels to help re-center the minds of the crew and passengers. The story takes place in the Outer Rim, a lawless sector where corporate influence is contested by independent colonies, pirates, and smugglers.
👥 Characters (4)
Characters in this story. You will choose who to play as when you start.
Kaelen
Protagonist
A jaded but highly skilled Resynchronizer aboard the Stardust Drifter. Kaelen's job is to use their rare psionic talent to keep the minds of the crew from fracturing during hyperspace travel. They are deeply empathetic but have built a wall of professional detachment to cope with the emotional drain of their work. Their greatest fear is that their own resistance to Void Drift is not as strong as they pretend, and that one day they won't be able to find their way back.
Aris Thorne
Neutral
The pragmatic and authoritative captain of the Stardust Drifter. Aris is a veteran of the Outer Rim trade routes and fiercely protective of his ship and crew. He relies on Kaelen's abilities more than he lets on. His secret is that he is hiding the advanced stages of Void Drift, experiencing minor memory lapses and moments of paranoia which he struggles to conceal.
Elara Vance
Neutral
A high-ranking envoy for the Xenocorp corporation, ostensibly on board to oversee the transport of 'sensitive biological samples.' In truth, she is on an unsanctioned mission to save a loved one who is cryo-frozen in the pod, using corporate resources to transport them to a place where they can be cured. She is fiercely intelligent and driven, viewing the crew as obstacles to her goal.
Jax
Neutral
The Chief Engineer of the Stardust Drifter, Jax knows every pipe, conduit, and power coupling on the ship better than he knows most people. He is cynical and deeply distrustful of authority, especially corporations like Xenocorp. He sees Captain Thorne as a friend who has compromised his principles for a steady contract. Jax's loyalty is to the ship itself, and he will do whatever it takes to keep it flying, even if it means bending or breaking the rules.
⚡ Key Events (7)
The Fracture
The story begins moments after a hyperspace jump. After a routine 'resync' of the bridge crew, a critical alarm sounds from the VIP quarters. Captain Thorne dispatches the protagonist to investigate. They find the passenger's cryo-pod malfunctioning violently, and its occupant suffering a catastrophic Drift event. Thorne seals the room and presents the protagonist with a stark choice: report the incident to the corporation, risking their freedom and becoming test subjects, or cover it up and deal with the fallout themselves.
Quarantine
Regardless of the choice, the VIP suite is placed under strict quarantine. Elara Vance, furious and desperate, demands to know what is happening. Captain Thorne struggles to maintain control of the ship and the narrative. The protagonist is tasked with performing a close-range psionic analysis of the afflicted passenger to diagnose the severity of the Drift, a dangerous procedure that will strain their own mental Integrity and expose them to chaotic psychic energy.
Whispers in the Static
In the cycles following the quarantine, the ship's internal comms system begins to malfunction. Crew members report hearing distorted voices and strange whispers over the channels. Captain Thorne dismisses it as a symptom of jump-lag, but Kaelen recognizes it as a psychic echo of the catastrophic Drift event. They must trace the source of the disturbance, leading them through the ship's maintenance corridors to a forgotten comms junction, where they uncover a hidden message or clue planted by Elara, revealing a fragment of her true purpose.
The Ghost in the Machine
The ship experiences a series of unsettling power drains and system failures localized around the quarantined VIP suite. Captain Thorne asks Kaelen to assist the ship's surly engineer, Jax, in diagnosing the problem. In the grimy, loud confines of Engineering, Jax is initially hostile, but investigating the power conduits reveals the issue isn't mechanical—it's a physical manifestation of the psychic chaos bleeding from the cryo-pod, something Jax cannot explain.
Personal Horizon
Kaelen's own mental defenses are beginning to fray from the constant exposure to the passenger's psychic fallout. During a moment of quiet, the world dissolves into a vivid memory or hallucination. They might relive a past failure, a lost loved one, or see a terrifying vision of what they could become if they succumb to Void Drift. They must fight their way back to lucidity, re-asserting their own identity against the encroaching chaos.
The Long Shadow
The ship's long-range sensors emit a shrill alert. A vessel has just dropped out of hyperspace on an intercept course. It's a Xenocorp destroyer, moving far faster than a typical patrol ship. It hails the Stardust Drifter, demanding a full stop for a 'priority inspection'. Captain Thorne knows an inspection is the last thing they can afford. A tense standoff begins as the warship closes in.
A Calculated Risk
With the Xenocorp destroyer looming, Elara Vance approaches Kaelen in private. She reveals the destroyer is under her rival's command, sent to seize her 'cargo'. She offers access to a restricted file on her datapad—one that details the true nature of the experimental treatment the passenger was undergoing and why the Drift event is so unusual. In return, she needs Kaelen to create a powerful psychic 'mirage' to fool the destroyer's sensors, a feat that will cost a significant amount of Resolve and risk Kaelen's own stability.
