📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
Decades ago, 'The Gloom' descended—a toxic, world-spanning fog that blotted out the sun and gave rise to monstrous creatures known as Chimeras. These beasts are drawn to strong negative emotions, making fear and anger a death sentence. Pockets of humanity survive in isolated, self-sufficient shelters. Haven Arbor is one such sanctuary, a massive biodome dedicated to preserving Earth's flora. Life is quiet, structured, and fragile. A unique phenomenon emerged after The Gloom: some humans developed 'Echoes,' latent psychic abilities tied to emotion and memory, making them both powerful and dangerous.

Protagonist
Protagonist
Born and raised in Haven Arbor, the protagonist knows little of the world before The Gloom. They were mentored by Elara, the victim, and possess a deep love for botany and the fragile life within the greenhouse. They are naturally inquisitive, a trait that will either help them solve this murder or put them in grave danger.
Kaelen
Neutral
As Head of Security, Kaelen is responsible for the physical safety of Haven Arbor. He is a pragmatist who survived the outside world before finding refuge here. He sees threats everywhere and trusts very few people. Elara's death confirms his belief that the greatest danger isn't the monsters outside, but the people within.
Lena
Neutral
Lena is one of the 'Founders,' the original group that established Haven Arbor. As the community's archivist and seed-keeper, she is the living memory of their society. She is gentle and empathetic, acting as a grandmother figure to many, including the protagonist. However, her deep knowledge of the past means she holds secrets that others have forgotten, some of which may be relevant to the murder.
Silas
Neutral
As Haven Arbor's Chief Engineer, Silas views the entire biodome as a complex machine he must keep from failing. He is a brilliant but cynical man who believes sentimentality is a liability. He had numerous disagreements with Elara over her 'vanity projects' which consumed precious energy, giving him a clear motive for wanting her out of the way.
⚡ Key Events (7)
A Wilted Bloom
The story begins on a seemingly normal day in Haven Arbor. While performing their duties, the protagonist discovers the body of their mentor, Elara. The peace of the sanctuary is shattered.
The Lockdown
Upon being alerted, Kaelen takes decisive action. He declares the Corpse Flower Atrium a crime scene and seals the entire Arboretum wing. Movement is restricted, and a palpable sense of fear begins to creep into the community's quiet routine. Kaelen begins his official investigation by interrogating those closest to the scene.
A Whispering Echo
Choosing to examine the scene before raising the alarm, the protagonist focuses on the strange blossom in Elara's hand. Using their Echo-Reading ability, they perceive a confusing jumble of emotions: intense focus, a flash of triumph, and then a sudden, sharp spike of terror that wasn't Elara's own. The experience is draining and leaves more questions than answers.
The Archivist's Tale
Seeking guidance, the protagonist finds Lena in the quiet solitude of the Seed Vault. She is deeply saddened by the news of Elara's death. She shares stories of Elara's passion and her rivalries within the Founders, hinting that Elara was working on something secret and potentially dangerous, but refuses to elaborate further, fearing it would cause a panic.
A Crack in the Glass
During a heated argument in the Main Promenade between two residents about the lockdown, a wave of collective fear washes through the crowd. In response, a massive, shadowy form slams against the dome's glass directly above, cracking it. The impact sends a spiderweb of fractures across the pane and a terrifying screech echoes through the dome, a stark reminder of the ever-present threat outside.
The Engineer's Ledger
Gaining access to the Engine Room, the protagonist can find Silas's work logs. A search reveals heated communications with Elara. She demanded significant power diversions for a 'high-priority botanical experiment' in an unused sector, but refused to specify the purpose. Silas denied the request, citing system instability. The final log entry is a formal complaint he planned to file against her.
The Secret Garden
Following clues from Elara's research or Lena's cryptic hints, the protagonist discovers a hidden door behind a wall of overgrown vines. Inside is a small, unauthorized greenhouse chamber. Strange, bioluminescent fungi cast an eerie glow on several unknown plant species. This was Elara's secret project, and it may hold the key to her death, the strange blossom, and a danger far greater than a simple murder.
