📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
Decades after an event known as the 'Great Silence' brought the old world to a halt, humanity survives in small, isolated pockets of civilization. One such settlement is Haven, a fortified town built in the shell of a pre-cataclysm city park. Life here is a blend of scavenging, farming, and community effort. The greatest unknown is the 'Echoes'—strange creatures born from the lingering energies of the world that was. Most are harmless, some are helpful, and a few are lethally dangerous. A very small number of people, known as 'Resonators,' are born with the ability to sense and influence these Echoes. The story follows a newly awakened Resonator as they learn to navigate their powers, their relationships, and their place in this quiet new world.
👥 Characters (4)
Characters in this story. You will choose who to play as when you start.
Alex (Protagonist)
Protagonist
An artist who creates sculptures from 'old world' scrap. Alex was born after the Great Silence and grew up in Haven. They are quiet and reserved, preferring the company of their art to large crowds. The recent discovery of their Resonance abilities has thrown their carefully constructed, peaceful life into chaos, forcing them to confront a power they don't understand and a future they never wanted.
Kael
Haven's only other known Resonator, Kael acts as an unofficial guardian and scout. He runs a small workshop where he repairs scavenged equipment and tinkers with old-world tech. He is gruff, cynical, and a man of few words, but his actions show a deep-seated desire to protect the people of Haven. He sees the same potential and danger in Alex that he once saw in himself.
Elara
Elara is the manager of Haven's greenhouse and kitchen, the literal heart of the community. She is an exceptionally talented botanist and cook, able to make nourishing and delicious meals from the town's limited resources. Her boundless optimism and energy are infectious, and she acts as a community organizer, mediator, and morale officer. She believes in building a world that is not just about survival, but about joy and connection.
Lena
Neutral
Born and raised in Haven, Lena has never known the 'old world' except through stories and salvaged junk, which she finds endlessly fascinating. She is a gifted tinkerer and Kael's unofficial, and very persistent, apprentice. She sees the ruins not as a graveyard, but as a treasure chest of forgotten wonders. Her boundless curiosity and optimism can sometimes get her into trouble.
⚡ Key Events (7)
The Glimmer in the Rubble
While scavenging for art supplies near the edge of Haven, the protagonist finds a perfectly preserved snow globe. Upon touching it, their latent Resonance awakens, manifesting a small, harmless light-based Echo. Just then, Kael, a grizzled older scavenger, appears. He recognizes the signs of an awakening and offers to explain what is happening. This is the inciting incident, introducing the protagonist's powers, the existence of Echoes, and the first major character.
First Lesson
Following the events of the awakening, Kael leads Alex to his workshop. It's a cluttered but organized space filled with scavenged tech and strange artifacts. Here, he explains the nature of Echoes and Resonance, sharing the basics of control. He guides Alex through their first intentional use of their power: sensing the faint, sleeping Echoes within some of the objects in his shop.
The Weeping Willow
Elara reports that something is disturbing the soil and stunting the growth of plants near the ancient willow tree at the edge of the community farm. She's worried it's a 'sour' Echo. Kael suggests it's a good first test for Alex. At the willow, Alex discovers a Grief-Torn Shade, an Echo born of loneliness, clinging to the old tree.
Community Feast
Elara organizes one of her famous community feasts in the main hall to celebrate a successful harvest. It's a rare moment of pure joy and relaxation for the whole town. Music plays, stories are shared, and the best food Haven has to offer is on display. It's an opportunity for Alex to connect with the townsfolk on a personal level.
A Voice on the Radio
After earning her trust, Elara asks Alex to meet her in private. In the back room of the greenhouse, she reveals her secret: a functioning short-wave radio. She has been in contact with another settlement, the Aegis Combine, who are more technologically advanced and militaristic. They've offered a trade deal that could help Haven, but Elara fears their culture of control and suspicion could poison Haven's community.
The Sunken Library
Lena has found an old map pointing to a pre-Silence public library, now half-flooded and buried in the Silent City. She believes it could hold priceless knowledge or technology. Kael warns that such deep, untouched places are often home to powerful and dangerous Echoes. It's a high-risk, high-reward expedition into the heart of the old world.
The Storm Echo
A massive, unnatural storm gathers over Haven. Kael recognizes it as the harbinger of a Storm Echo, a vast and chaotic entity born from the violent energies of the atmosphere. It threatens to tear through the town's defenses and overwhelm the community. This is the first major threat that cannot be ignored or handled by one person alone.
