📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
The world of Tessere was woven into existence by two primordial deities: Tyche, the embodiment of chaos and fortune, and Ananke, the representation of order and fate. All of life is a reflection of their eternal, cosmic game. Mortals have learned to tap into this game through rituals and games of chance. The city-state of Chancefall is the epicenter of this culture, a sprawling metropolis dedicated to the worship of luck.

⚡ Key Events (7)
The Final Hand
The story begins. Kaelen is seated at an Aetherfall table in The Gilded Folly, across from the smug Lord Valerius. The game has come down to the final reveal. The prize is a Memory Shard containing a memory Kaelen desperately needs back. Kaelen holds a powerful but risky hand. The player must decide how to play the final, decisive moment: reveal their cards confidently, attempt a masterful bluff, or use a risky sleight-of-hand.
The Collector's Due
Depending on the outcome of 'The Final Hand,' Seraphina Vane approaches Kaelen. If Kaelen lost, she is here to collect the debt—either the wagered item or a pound of flesh, leading to a confrontation, chase, or a desperate new bargain. If Kaelen won, she arrives with a message: her master, the owner of The Gilded Folly, is impressed and wishes to offer Kaelen a 'lucrative' and dangerous job. Either path pulls Kaelen deeper into the casino's dangerous web.
An Echo of Fortune
At a moment of desperation or unexpected triumph, the world seems to warp and shimmer. Kaelen finds themself in a place that is not a place, a silent Crossroads under a sky of swirling silver and gold. The Old Man is there, waiting. He offers a piece of vital information—perhaps the true nature of the Memory Shard, or a weakness in the Folly's security—but for a price. He wishes to wager for something only Kaelen has: 'the memory of your first victory,' 'the name of your childhood friend,' or 'an ounce of your luck.'
An Offer From The House
Following the events with Seraphina and the Old Man, Kaelen is formally summoned to the pinnacle of The Argent Spire to meet Lysander Thorne. He offers Kaelen a deal: participate in a legendary, high-stakes tournament, 'The God's Gamble,' on his behalf. The prize for winning is anything the heart desires. If Kaelen accepts, they become Lysander's champion; if they refuse, they are cast out and marked as an enemy of The House.
The Oracle of Bones
To prepare for the tournament, Kaelen needs an edge. Rumors speak of an oracle in the Pauper's Dice Alley who can divine the flow of luck. The oracle, a blind old woman, doesn't speak in words but in the casting of knuckle-bones. Kaelen can wager a piece of their past (a memory), present (a skill), or future (a promise) for a cryptic but vital prophecy about an opponent or an upcoming challenge.
Whispers in the Sunken Market
Kaelen hears of a black market for forbidden gambling artifacts, located in the flooded under-levels of the city known as the Sunken Market. Navigating this dangerous place could yield powerful, illegal items like loaded dice or cards that whisper secrets. However, the market is patrolled by agents of The Order of the Unblinking Eye, who punish those who rely on 'unearned' luck.
Seraphina's Gambit
Kaelen stumbles upon Seraphina engaged in a secret, desperate act: attempting to find a flaw in her magical contract. She might be consulting a forbidden text or meeting with a pact-breaker. Kaelen can choose to help her, expose her to Lysander, or ignore it. Helping her could earn a powerful, reluctant ally, but failure would bring the full wrath of The House down on them both.
