📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
In an event known as 'The Transition', every human on Earth—over 7.8 billion souls—was simultaneously teleported to an alien world dubbed 'Refuge'. The landscape is a patchwork of biomes: forests, mountains, deserts, and frozen tundras, each zone containing resources and unique threats. Each person appeared inside a rudimentary, personalized shelter—a cabin, a cave, a hut—with a single basic tool. A mysterious 'Survival System' interfaces with their minds, providing a status panel, a map, and objective notifications. The System announces periodic 'Disaster Cycles'—extreme weather events, monster surges, or environmental shifts that test the survivors' preparedness. Communication is possible via a global, text-only 'World Channel', though it is chaotic and unmoderated. The true purpose of The Transition and the nature of the System are unknown. Whispers speak of 'The Architects', a possible higher intelligence behind the experiment. Some survivors have begun to form factions, while others prey on the weak. The core loop is simple: gather by day, fortify by night, survive the disaster, repeat.
👥 Characters (4)
Characters in this story. You will choose who to play as when you start.
Kai
Protagonist
The player character. A former structural engineer before The Transition, Kai's analytical mind is now focused on one thing: survival. He is pragmatic, resourceful, and deeply wary, trusting logic over emotion. His motivation is not just to live, but to understand the rules of this new world and bend them to his will. He starts with a rusty axe and a head full of questions.
Elara Vance
Neutral
A survivor who appears far more established than she should be. Elara claims to have been a park ranger, and her tracking and hunting skills are exceptional. She operates from a well-hidden shelter and offers targeted trades—medicine for rare pelts, information for metal scraps. She knows more about the local wildlife and seasonal patterns than anyone else, but she is evasive about her past and how she acquired her gear.
Marcus Thorne
Neutral
The self-proclaimed 'Foreman' of a nearby survivor enclave called the 'Iron Claim'. Marcus preys on the weak and disorganized, offering 'protection' in exchange for a steep tax of resources. He uses a combination of charisma, implied threat, and occasional brutal examples to control his territory. He sees the new world not as a tragedy, but as an opportunity to build a kingdom with himself at the top.
Anya Petrova
Neutral
A former geologist and amateur historian. Anya was methodically documenting Refuge's strange geology and searching for clues about The Architects when her shelter was destroyed in a landslide. She is knowledgeable about mineral nodes, safe cave systems, and possesses fragments of lore about pre-Transition human civilizations that she believes are connected to The Transition. She is currently desperate, injured, and willing to trade her knowledge for survival.
⚡ Key Events (7)
First Light, First Night
Kai awakens disoriented in the dilapidated cabin. The System announces itself. The immediate priority is to secure basic resources—wood for repairing the wall and fuel for a fire—before nightfall and the accompanying temperature drop and increased wildlife activity. This event introduces core mechanics: resource gathering, basic crafting (wooden plank, simple bedroll), shelter management (the cracked wall), and the day/night danger cycle.
The Howl in the Dark
On Kai's first night, if they failed to fully repair the cabin wall or secure the door, a Scavenger Wolf pack catches the scent of vulnerability. The survivors hear scratching at the weak point, followed by howls. The pack will attempt to breach the shelter before dawn.
Elara's Proposition
On the morning of Day 3, Elara Vance appears at the edge of the clearing. She observes Kai for a moment before stepping out, offering a trade: her advanced warning of the first 'Frostwave' disaster in exchange for Kai's help clearing a Cave Bear from a mineral-rich cave she wants to claim.
The Iron Claim's Toll
On Day 5, two of Marcus Thorne's envoys arrive at Kai's shelter. They deliver an ultimatum: pay a 'settlement fee' of 50 Wood and 20 Stone to the Iron Claim within 48 hours, or be marked as hostile. The envoys are armed and make a show of inspecting Kai's defenses. This event forces a confrontation with the local power structure.
Frostwave Warning
On Day 6, the System broadcasts its first Disaster Cycle warning: 'FROSTWAVE INBOUND. ETA: 48 HOURS. TEMPERATURE DROP: -30°C BASE. PREPARE SHELTER INSULATION AND HEAT SOURCES.' Panic erupts on the World Channel. Survivors scramble to trade for warm clothing, fuel, and insulation materials. Prices for coal, fur, and thermal stones skyrocket.
The Silent Grove
While gathering resources, Kai stumbles upon a circular clearing where all sound is muted. The pine trees here are petrified, their bark turned to smooth, cold stone. In the center lies a strange, geometric altar made of a non-terrestrial metal. Interacting with it causes the System interface to glitch, displaying corrupted text: '[DATA STREAM... ARCHITECT PROTOCOL... OBSERVATION CYCLE 7,403...]'
Homesteader's Bargain
A desperate survivor named Anya stumbles into Kai's clearing, wounded and frostbitten. She offers the location of her 'Ruin'—her destroyed shelter—which contains a cache of advanced tools and a partially built 'Smokehouse' blueprint. In exchange, she begs for medical aid and sanctuary until she can recover.
