📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
The Deep Blue is an artificial, endless ocean realm where all of humanity has been transported. There is no land. Each person starts on a 10x10 meter floating stone island anchored by a Source Tree sapling. If the Source Tree dies, the island disintegrates in 24 hours, and the person vanishes. The sky is a permanent pale blue dome with a 12-hour day/night cycle. The seawater is undrinkable without purification due to high 'spirit-salt' concentration. The air contains trace 'spiritual energy' (灵气) which enables the awakening of unique Sea Talents on the third day. The ocean is layered by depth: 0-10m (Shallow), 10-30m (Twilight), 30-100m (Abyssal), 100-500m (Chasm), and 500m+ (Deep Blue Forbidden Zone). Each layer holds greater dangers and richer resources. Periodic Sea Disasters—like Giant Waves, Salt-Storms, and Deep Surges—threaten all survivors. A mysterious 'System' broadcasts global alerts, rankings, and events via the World Channel. Underlying everything is the mystery of a previous civilization that once inhabited this space before being 'reset'.
👥 Characters (4)
Characters in this story. You will choose who to play as when you start.
Lu Chen
Protagonist
A third-year marine biology student who grew up in a fishing village. He possesses extensive practical knowledge of marine life, currents, and weather patterns—a non-system advantage in this alien ocean. He is naturally cautious and analytical, preferring to observe and understand before acting. He dislikes leadership but has a quiet competence that draws others to him.
Jiang Tang
Neutral
A graduate student in botany. Quiet, kind, and unexpectedly stubborn when it comes to her plants or principles. Her talent makes her the heart of any sustainable settlement, as she can coax life from the barren stone and saltwater.
Ma Xiao
Neutral
A former special forces soldier. Blunt, hot-tempered, and fiercely loyal. His talent reinforces his body, making him the group's unbreakable shield. He provides the brute-force solution when subtlety fails.
Captain Aris
Neutral
A former merchant marine captain. Ruthlessly pragmatic and a natural leader, he has quickly consolidated a small flotilla of merged islands under his command through a mix of charisma, fair deals, and implied threat. He sees the Deep Blue as a new ocean to be conquered and ruled. His talent, 'Current Command', allows him to subtly manipulate water flow around his vessel.
⚡ Key Events (8)
Awakening in the Deep Blue
Lu Chen wakes on his floating island. The World Channel is chaos. He must take his first actions: try to fish, purify water, explore the immediate surroundings of his island, or attempt to communicate with other nearby survivors. This event establishes the core survival mechanics, the eerie setting, and the overwhelming scale of the disaster. Lu Chen's marine knowledge gives him a slight edge in identifying a safe, edible fish species among the driftwood.
The First Catch
Lu Chen's first attempt to secure food. Using his fishing net and marine knowledge, he must identify which of the shimmering fish schools near the island are safe to eat. The 'Spirit-Salt' in the water has mutated some species, making them toxic or aggressive. A successful catch provides crucial early nutrition and materials; failure means wasted time and potential injury from a defensive fish.
Driftwood Graveyard Encounter
A large debris field drifts into view. It's a trove of potential resources—wood, fiber, maybe even salvaged tools—but it's also a known hunting ground for scavengers. Lu Chen must decide whether to risk approaching the graveyard to loot it or let the opportunity drift by. The World Channel buzzes with warnings and success stories about similar fields.
Talent Awakening: Day 3
On the dawn of the third day, a surge of spiritual energy from the air floods Lu Chen's body. The System interface glows, and his unique Sea Talent awakens. For Lu Chen, this is 'Abyssal Gaze', but the process is disorienting and intense. Visions of the deep, whispers of drowned civilizations, and a sudden, overwhelming awareness of the ocean's layers flood his mind. He must stabilize his new perception.
First Sea Disaster: Salt-Storm
The System broadcasts a crimson alert: a Salt-Storm is forming in the sector. The sky darkens to a bruised purple, and the wind picks up, carrying stinging, desiccating salt crystals. The storm will scour the island, damaging the Source Tree, depleting fresh water reserves, and forcing all survivors to take shelter or be dehydrated and blinded.
The Whispering Trench Dive
Using his Abyssal Gaze, Lu Chen detects a powerful energy signature emanating from the Whispering Trench—a cluster of rare 'Depth-Crystals' needed for advanced crafting. To retrieve them, he must dive into the Abyssal layer, braving the pressure, the eerie whispers, and the creatures that lurk in the dark. This is the first major foray into the deep.
Island Merger Proposal
A nearby survivor, Captain Aris, broadcasts a direct offer via the System's private channel. He proposes merging his larger, resource-rich island with Lu Chen's, with Aris taking leadership of the combined territory. The offer is tempting—immediate security and expansion—but would mean ceding control of Lu Chen's Source Tree and destiny. Jiang Tang and Ma Xiao have strong, opposing opinions.
Echoes of the Reset
While diving near a deep thermal vent, Lu Chen's Abyssal Gaze pierces a layer of sediment to reveal a structure—a corroded metal archway covered in non-human glyphs. It is a fragment of the civilization that existed before the 'reset'. Touching it triggers a data-fragment download into his System, revealing a haunting, incomplete log about the 'Architects' and their failure to contain 'The Deep Hunger'.
