📖 Story Backstory
The introduction and setting of the world, including its history.
Decades ago, the Sage of Six Paths' teachings were not lost to myth but were reverse-engineered as a universal science. 'Chakra' is now a fundamental energy field, like electricity. All humans develop a chakra network during puberty, allowing them to perform feats once exclusive to shinobi. This led not to peace, but to the Fourth Great Ninja War—a total war between the Great Nations, fought with mass-produced jutsu, chakra-enhanced infantry, and propaganda. The war has bogged down into a cold war stalemate. Society is a patchwork: glittering chakra-tech cities controlled by major nations, and vast, contested hinterlands of crumbling highways, abandoned towns, and independent settlements where the old rules don't apply. The journey from the Rain Country (a neutral but anarchic zone) to the Land of Iron (a fortified, neutral state rumored to be seeking an end to the war) is thousands of miles of this perilous, open world.
👥 Characters (4)
Characters in this story. You will choose who to play as when you start.
Kaito
Protagonist
The driver and owner of 'The Toad', a modified van that's both home and weapon. A former logistics runner for the Land of Fire's military, he went AWOL after a mission went catastrophically wrong, taking his vehicle with him. Now he survives as a freelance transporter on the highways, preferring the open road to any nation's flag. Pragmatic to a fault, but fiercely protective of his vehicle and, reluctantly, his crew.
Maya
The security specialist. A former kunoichi from the hidden village of Sunagakure (Sand), discharged for 'insubordination'—which really meant questioning the pointless sacrifice of her team. She now sells her skills to the highest bidder, specializing in perimeter security, trap detection, and silent takedowns. She has a strict professional code and a deep-seated hatred for the war's waste.
Ren
The chakra-tech specialist and self-proclaimed 'lore seeker'. Too young to have been formally drafted, Ren grew up in the highway waystations, learning chakra theory from scavenged scrolls and broken devices. He's a brilliant, untrained natural with a knack for understanding and jury-rigging chakra systems, but he lacks real-world combat experience. He's on a quest to find legendary 'Sage' artifacts.
Hiroshi
Neutral
The proprietor of 'The Rusty Bolt', a mobile waystation and black-market parts dealer that travels the highways on a massive, fortified crawler-truck. Hiroshi is a legend among road crews—a master mechanic, seal-crafter, and information broker who owes allegiance to no nation. He knows every safe route, every dangerous stretch, and the price of everything. He hired Kaito for the scroll job, though his reasons are his own.
⚡ Key Events (7)
The Garage Decision
The crew is gathered in the rainy garage with the mysterious scroll. The immediate choice is clear: investigate the scroll now, or prioritize movement and leave immediately. This decision sets the initial tone and risk level for the early journey.
First Leg: The Drowned Pass
A day's travel from Amegakure, the highway passes through a mountain valley flooded by a broken dam from an old battle. The route is partially submerged, littered with the wrecks of old vehicles, and rumored to be haunted by water-logged corpses animated by lingering chakra.
Encounter at the Rusty Bolt
The crew spots Hiroshi's massive crawler-truck, 'The Rusty Bolt', serving as a mobile waystation in a barren stretch of highway. It's a chance to resupply, repair, and gather information—but nothing with Hiroshi is free or straightforward.
Border Skirmish
The highway approaches a contested border zone between Fire and Earth countries. A patrol from one nation mistakes 'The Toad' for an enemy scout or tries to press-gang the crew. A tense standoff ensues.
The Chakra Storm
A wild, unpredictable weather phenomenon caused by massive, clashing chakra residues from a past battle. The sky darkens with elemental colors, lightning strikes of pure chakra, and howling winds that disrupt chakra control and electronics.
The Courier's Ghost
During a night camp, Ren's sensor goggles pick up a faint, familiar chakra signature—a residual imprint from the scroll's original, deceased courier. It manifests as a weak genjutsu mirage, trying to deliver a final, fragmented message.
Waystation Siege
The crew arrives at a fortified waystation only to find it under attack by a band of rogue chakra-users or a desperate military unit seeking supplies. The station's defenders are holding out, but barely.
